Manufacturing a sustainable world

Smulders is a multidisciplinary and international construction company with more than 2,000 employees spread across sites in Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and the UK. Our focus is on civil and industrial projects involving steel, and offshore wind energy. With engineering, manufacturing and systems integration, we go all the way. Manufacturing a sustainable world is our mission.

With a huge passion for steel, motivation and know-how, we have become a sustainable pioneer in the industry. We are also characterised by innovation, thanks to which we have developed from a steel construction-only company into a systems integrator (EPC – Engineering, Procurement, Construction). With our own electrical/mechanical engineering department, we can design and build offshore projects completely in-house (turnkey). Our steel-strong team guarantees the well-known quality, flexibility and reliability of Smulders’ deliveries. Our reference projects all over the world are proof of this.

Where we are

The strength of a large group

Smulders forms part of the Eiffage Group, which has more than 78,000 employees, across 50 countries. Eiffage is one of the European leaders in construction, energy systems and infrastructure and stands out with a great diversity in skills and technical know-how.

Smulders is part of the Eiffage Infrastructures branch, one of 4 entities within the Eiffage Group, alongside Eiffage Construction, Eiffage Énergie Systèmes and Eiffage Concessions.

Our Services

In addition to our core business, we provide services for 3D cutting in a fully automated process and edge rounding, which protects the surface from corrosion even better. Find out more about our range of services.

3D cutting

3D cutting is the automated process of cutting objects such as metal tubes, flat and stamped surfaces in three dimensions. Cutting is carried out by plasma or oxygen fuel depending on the thickness of the material.

By preparing the weld at the design and detailing stage, parts are prepared for an optimal fit and the weld volume is significantly reduced, resulting in significant time and cost savings. Our 3D cutting capabilities open up a wide range of design possibilities.

Edge rounding

Protective paints and coatings of other types should not adhere to the sharp edges of the material. Therefore, an edge levelling method is used to improve the surface for coating and, ultimately, corrosion protection. There are two standard methods used by manufacturers to align the edges of beams and bars: chamfering and rolling.

The disadvantage of chamfering is that it creates new edges that still provide the same liquid coating dissipation effect through high surface tension. This makes edge rounding by far the preferred process compared to chamfering.
